Best of the Bunch: The Trials – Lithuania

Through our Best of the Bunch series, we gave a recap on the Eurovision entries from 2006 to 2015 and gave you the opportunity to choose your Best of the Bunch. As you may remember, the current Best of the Bunch winners were put into our ‘Ultimate Eurovision’ but it’s time to see which of the latest three entries have remained as your favourites! In our Best of the Bunch: The Trials series, we are going to recap the entries from a certain nation starting with 2016 and continuing through to the latest Eurovision season of 2018. Your job is to simply enjoy the music, and vote for your Best of the Bunch winner!

Today we will be looking at the recent history of Lithuania, namely the latest three entries that the nation have sent to Eurovision. Actually, in the scheme of things, two of those three years Lithuania has actually been quite successful. It makes for a refreshing change as we occasionally see Lithuania leaning towards the bottom of the results table in the final, or otherwise stuck in the semi-finals! Let’s take a look at the latest three entries, then it will be up to you to decide on your best of the bunch!

Lithuania 2016

We’re starting our journey today in 2016, where we saw a familiar face return to the contest! As you will remember, Donny Montell won the Lithuanian national final and therefore the opportunity to return to Eurovision. This time around, he performed the song I’ve Been Waiting For This Night, which compared to his 2012 entry was worlds apart. This entry was much more modern, and Donny sported a whole new and edgier look and audiences hopped on board. In the semi-final, Lithuania qualified through in 4th place, and in the final they managed to crack into the Top 10, finishing in 9th place with 200 points!

Lithuania 2017

Fast forward a year, and through yet another mammoth national selection, it was decided that Fusedmarc would represent Lithuania with their electronic style song Rain of Revolution. It certainly was a unique entry from Lithuania, however it was failing to make waves in the Eurovision pre-season. As we know, anything can happen at Eurovision, so perhaps we would see Lithuania in the final again….. but unfortunately not. The group finished in 17th place with just 42 points in the semi-final.

Lithuania 2018

That brings us to Lithuania’s most recent entry, which was once again chosen by a mammoth national selection! We’d seen Ieva take part in the national selection before, but this was her year to represent Lithuania with her incredibly personal and touching entry titled When We’re Old. At Eurovision, the momentum grew, and things were looking up for Lithuania and a return to the final. It was a close call, but the touching sentiment gathered enough votes to bring Lithuania to the final, and in the final Ieva scored the nation a 12th place with 181 points.

So now you’ve seen all three performances, it’s time to vote for your Best of the Bunch!
